Outer House

Renovation, Residence | Musashino-city, Tokyo | 2006

We were commissioned to renovate an ordinary nine-year-old house built by a major house builder. By punching out a large opening on the East wall, which had previously been constricted by the existence of one small window, and creating a semi-closed space “outer room” with a steel frame and fabric awnings, we endeavored to blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors, thereby uniting the kitchen, dining room, and outer room to create a single enormous space for various activities.

In collaboration with Toshimitsu Kuno.
